Hawk and Owl Sanctuary

The West Valley Outdoor Learning Center is home to 5 Birds of Prey, thanks to the Hawk and Owl sanctuary on our grounds. Residents of this sanctuary include a Harris's Hawk, a Red-Tailed Hawk, a Rough-Legged Hawk, a hybrid Sparred Owl, and a Great Horned Owl. All of these birds were injured at some point in their lives and are unable to survive in the wild. Thankfully, through one way or another, these birds gain a new lease on life and become educational birds! By having live birds of prey available in our lessons, we can more effectively and impactfully teach students and parents about the environment and the challenges that are posed to the environment and habitats everyday.
